Lifetime's Clinical Services

LCS Clinical Services

Prevention clinical services are performed at Moffitt’s Lifetime Cancer Screening & Prevention Center, a freestanding facility located at 4117 E. Fowler Ave., in Tampa, click here for directions. Lifetime also has a mobile unit, delivering services to patients in the community as part of our outreach efforts. Lifetime’s physicians, advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs), nurses, technologists, scientists, and counselors work in multidisciplinary teams to prevent and detect curable cancers.

Lifetime takes advantage of the latest advances in the science and technology of cancer detection to provide state-of-the art screening services, included in:

  • Women’s Comprehensive Cancer Checkups (including breasts, thyroid, mouth, skin, lymph nodes, cervix and ovaries)
  • Men’s Comprehensive Cancer Checkups (including prostate, thyroid, mouth, skin, lymph nodes and testes)
  • Digital and Film Mammograms with computer-aided detection (CAD) for women
  • Colonoscopies at our satellite endoscopy center

Diagnostic Services

  • Breast MRI – This is offered to patients for detecting and staging breast cancer and other breast abnormalities. More detailed information and patient instructions can be found here.
  • DXA Bone Density – This helps determine if the patient has osteoporosis or is at risk for osteoporosis or fracture. It is also used to monitor treatment for osteoporosis and/or the side effects of certain chemotherapies.

Clinics for People at Risk

Lifetime specializes in identifying and helping patients who have a higher-than-average risk for cancer. We’ve developed cancer prevention clinics that are offered several days each month where patients can be evaluated by expert multidisciplinary teams and receive personalize strategies to lower risk.

Clinics currently available include:

  • Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer Screening and Prevention Clinic
Provides comprehensive care to women at increased risk of breast and/or ovarian cancer due to family history. Patients receive a complete gynecologic evaluation (including breast and pelvic exam) and appropriate surveillance tests (which may include a mammogram, transvaginal ultrasound, pap smear, breast MRI, and CA-125 blood test).

  • Diagnostic Breast Clinic
Provides consultation or a second opinion to patients with a new breast problem found on imaging or clinical exam. Each patient receives a clinical breast exam, comprehensive physical exam and any indicated diagnostic imaging. Patients are seen in this clinic prior to stereotactic, needle core or excisional breast biopsy.

  • Breast Surveillance Clinic
Provides clinical monitoring for women at increased risk of breast cancer because of certain medical conditions. For example, women with lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), atypical hyperplasia (abnormal cells found in a biopsy) and women more than five years from breast cancer treatment are seen in this clinic.

  • Cervical Dysplasia Clinic
Provides consultation or a second opinion to patients with cervical or vaginal dysplasia. Each patient receives a comprehensive physical exam and any indicated diagnostic procedures, which may include colposcopy, biopsy or follow-up pap smear.

  • Vulva Dysplasia Clinic
Provides consultation or a second opinion to patients with vulva dysplasia. Each patient receives a comprehensive physical exam and any indicated diagnostic procedures, which may include colposcopy and/or biopsy.

  • Cancer Genetics Clinic
Provides confidential genetic counseling and assessment to patients with a family history of cancer, to help them understand if they may be at risk of developing a hereditary form of the disease. Genetic testing is available to eligible patients.

  • Prostate Evaluation Clinic
Provides follow-up care to men with an abnormal prostate screening (PSA test or digital rectal exam) and to men at increased risk due to family history or pre-malignant cells on biopsy. Additional lab work and prostate biopsies may be conducted.

  • High Risk GI Cancer Clinic
Provides clinical surveillance for patients at increased risk for colon and other GI cancers, including patients with hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC).

  • Skin Surveillance Clinic
Provides a head-to-toe skin evaluation. If skin biopsy is needed, it can be carried out immediately. Pre-cancerous conditions are also treated in this clinic. Close surveillance for patients at increased risk for melanoma is also provided.

  • Heartburn Clinic
Provides capsule endoscopy, allowing our gastroenterologist to visualize the patient’s esophagus. The PillCam technology is used in place of a traditional upper endoscopy, or EGD, for patients who may be at an increased risk for esophageal cancer or Barrett’s Esophagus (a pre-cancerous condition) because of chronic heartburn. The appointment lasts less than 30 minutes, does not require special preparation or sedation – allowing a patient to return to normal activity immediately following the procedure.

  • FreshBreak™ Smoking Cessation Clinic
Provides help to people who wish to quit smoking. Individuals may be treated with a combination of counseling, pharmacological aids (such as nicotine replacement products) and other innovative approaches.
