Research Operations

 

Overview

Administrative support for all research activities at the Cancer Center is organized within the Moffitt Research Institute under one Vice President of Research, Michael Benedict, PharmD. He has more than 20 years of experience in developing and managing research infrastructure for nationally recognized cancer centers. His experience includes serving as Vice President of Research at Moffitt, Executive Director for Research at Children’s Hospital & Health Center in San Diego, and Associate Director for Administration at the City of Hope National Medical Center/Beckman Research Institute in Duarte, Calif.

Dr. Benedict oversees the administrative staff who support all research faculty and activities, including the following functions:

  • Clinical research activation and the monitoring process for all phases of clinical research at Moffitt and affiliate site locations
  • Financial oversight for research programs and shared resources
  • Administrative oversight of the Cancer Center Support Grant
  • Administrative support for all investigators
  • Grant receipt, account management and reporting to sponsors
  • Annual preparation of F&A proposals to DHHS/DCA
  • Ensuring health and safety in the research environment

The goals of Research Operations are to:

  • Manage and support the research infrastructure
  • Provide good stewardship of external and internal funding
  • Provide the best support possible for Cancer Center researchers
